Getting Creative: CPP

We helped the City of Long Beach establish the Community Parking Program, a hybrid public/private partnership between residents and local business owners. The City wanted to ease congestion, create more parking & improve customer service.

Before the CPP, it not unusual for residents to come home from work and circle the block for an hour. So the City created 1,000 new off-street parking spaces by allowing residents to park overnight in city-owned and school district parking lots.

Next, the City cracked down on parking abusers. They towed anyone with five unpaid tickets or an unregistered vehicle. This cleared the streets and created hundreds of new parking spaces.

But in order to provide convenient access to parking for all residents, the City had to do more. They had to figure out a way to optimize parking across the city, and provide access to the right citizens at the right times.

Using www.CommunityParking.com, business owners can lease their unused parking spots to residents. Citizens choose from a menu of locations and prices. And iParq provides software that manages the program.
